The Impact of the Coronavirus

Today I have been reflecting on the effects that Coronavirus has had on ‘my world’.

I am very lucky; I am not ill, nor have I been and thankfully neither has anyone I hold dear.  I am also lucky because I am still working and can safely do so from home, but it has taken until now for me to stop and think about it all.

At first ……..

Being in the wedding industry has meant that at the start of this crisis I was “firefighting”, trying to help as many distraught couples as I possibly could who suddenly had their world turned upside down.  Dealing with insurance companies refusing to help, writing to Parliament to request specific and further clarifications for the wedding industry so we can plan for the future, answer questions from our couples and find a way to ensure our business survives.  If venues can no longer generate new bookings or host weddings then much of English heritage could be lost forever!  Many spectacular venues (including Berkeley Castle) are historic houses which have diversified, so to lose these would be truly devastating.

What have I learned?

Although something I knew already, the past few weeks have highlighted to me that the wedding industry as a whole and its people are truly incredible, and that there is no end to their willingness and ability to help and find solutions and I am very much honoured to be a part of all of this.

Now we are beginning to re-emerge into a life after lockdown there are still so many questions that need to be answered and we still don’t really know what will happen going forward, but what I do know is that I am part of a community that has a burning desire to make their client’s dreams come true by working together and supporting each other and that makes me incredibly proud.

I also know that I work with incredible clients who through all of this have remained positive, and in some cases are ingenious when it comes to celebrating their original wedding date.

I am also heartened to meet (via the wonders of Zoom) new couples who are planning their wedding with faith that the world will return soon to something we might consider normal.

What next?

I don’t know what the future holds, the effects and ramifications of Covid-19 are far reaching and will shape us forever, but what I do know is that love and hope and faith and determination are as “alive” as ever and I am very lucky to be a part of an industry that ensures I see on a daily basis much to be thankful for.

To all my wonderful couples out there, whenever your wedding day may be, know that you are part of a community who will stop at nothing to make certain you have the most perfect wedding.  We are here for you every step of the way!
