The 3 Most Important Things for Your Wedding

It's the biggest day of your life. You want everything to be perfect, and you want your wedding day to be the best it can possibly be……

The lists are endless and the more things you think about the more things there are to consider.

But how much thought, time and effort should you be spending on each individual thing?  Your budget isn't endless, so what should you prioritise?  What is the most important?

Well, this is something that is ultimately up to you and your fiancé.  You might be a complete foodie so catering food, drink and cake, are going to be high up on the list.  You might be crazy about flowers, so having the best florist is a must.  You might be all about the jam, so having the right music, band and entertainment is much more important in your eyes, than, let's say, a wedding car.

BUT having worked as a wedding planner for the best part of two decades it doesn't matter who you are or what your vibe is there are three most important things to get right for your wedding, and I'm going to tell you what they are!

Number one:

The most important thing of all the person that you are going to marry.

It might seem obvious, but we can get caught up in all the ‘pomp and ceremony’ and forget how important the person is that we are about to marry.  After all, you are making a commitment to spend the rest of your lives together, for better or for worse, and as someone once said, you don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the person who you cannot live without.

Number two:

The ring on your finger.

This often gets overlooked as one of the most important things for your wedding.  Now you don't have to have a wedding ring at all, but if you choose to do so it is incredibly important that you make the right choice.  You will be wearing this ring for the rest of your life, so you need to love it just as much in 60 years’ time, as you do today.  Yes, that Game of Thrones inspired ring might be incredible, and you might have met at a game of thrones fancy dress party and it fits in with your game of thrones themed wedding, but will you look upon that ring in 40 years’ time and still love it when we are all binge watching the next big thing?  Choose carefully, this ring will be with you till death do you part and quite possibly beyond, if you hand it down!

And finally, number three:

Your photographer.

When all is said and done, and you have spoken your vows in the most spectacular venue, and you've eaten the best food, and you've worn the most glamorous outfits, and you've danced the night away to the greatest band ever……. All you will have left are your memories, and even those will fade over time.

Your photographer needs, not only to capture the day, but also to capture the emotion and the feelings.  When you look through your photographs, they need to evoke all those emotions and feelings that you both had, they need to capture the essence of all that was going on and remind you, not only of what happened, but how you felt.

Your photographer also needs to capture all those moments you will miss!  Your day will go so fast, and there will be so many wonderful moments shared amongst your family and friends that you won't know about, and your photographer will be the only one that can document this for you.

One of my most favourite photos I have in my wedding album is of a moment that I wasn't there for.

It's okay I shouldn't have been there, it was before the ceremony, and before I had arrived.  The moment was between my husband and a very dear family friend, who is now godmother to our three children.  In that single image, I can see exactly what my husband was thinking, I can see exactly what our friend was thinking, and I can feel all that emotion. It literally leaps out of the picture and into my heart.  It still brings a tear to my eye when I look at it now.

This is what a great photographer should do, so don't accept anything less.  These images will be your memories of that day, and will be the only thing capable of reminding you, just how incredible, your whole wedding was.
